Wellness on the Go: How I Stay Healthy When I Travel

Share:

Let’s be honest: travel can throw your routine way off. Between time zones, airport snacks, late dinners, it’s easy to feel sluggish or off your game.

But over time, I’ve figured out how to stay healthy, energized, and on my routine while on the go. Here’s how I keep my body and mind feeling good while I travel!

1. Pack Your Non-Negotiables

Think of these as your wellness MVPs. A few favorite snacks, travel-friendly supplements, or electrolyte packets can make a big difference. Having go-tos on hand makes it easier to stay consistent and avoid relying solely on what’s convenient.

Some ideas:

  • Protein travel packs or bars (Truvani, Promix Puff Bars)
  • Electrolyte packets
  • Digestive enzymes or magnesium
  • Mini pillow spray
  • Gua sha tool or mini foam roller
  • Silicone travel containers for supplements
  • Blue light glasses or sleep mask
  • Compression socks for the flight
  • Reusable water bottle

2. Stay Hydrated (But Smarter)

It’s not just about drinking more water—it’s about replacing what you lose through flying, walking, sweating, and salty meals. Electrolytes help keep energy, digestion, and mood more stable, especially if you’re changing climates or indulging a bit more than usual.

Try: Electrolytes first thing in the morning or post-flight, coconut water when available, and herbal teas (like fennel, ginger, or mint) to soothe digestion in the evening.

3. Make Movement Feel Good

You don’t need a full gym setup to feel good in your body. Try walking to get your morning coffee, doing a quick stretch in your room, or do a short travel-friendly workout. On the shaep app, we have a whole travel series that’s easy to take with you.

Pro tip: Download a few 10–15 minute flows ahead of time so you can move offline, even if the Wi-Fi is spotty.

4. Don’t Skip Rest & Recovery

Travel can be exciting—but it’s still a stressor on your system. Prioritizing recovery helps you feel refreshed instead of run-down.

A few ways to reset on the go:

  • Legs-up-the-wall for 5–10 minutes before bed (great for circulation + bloat)
  • Body gua sha post-shower on legs and arms with a little oil
  • A gentle wind-down routine: dim lights, magnesium, herbal tea, and 30 screen-free minutes
  • Use your sleep spray, eye mask, or white noise app to help you unwind

Even just giving yourself space to slow down in the morning can make a difference.

5. Let Food Be Fun, Not Stressful

Enjoy the pasta. Have the dessert. But tune in to how you want to feel after, too.

Some simple ways to support digestion so you can feel good:

  • Add greens when you can (even just a side salad or sautéed veg)
  • Use digestive bitters in water before heavier meals to help things move
  • Sip ginger or fennel tea after eating to ease bloat
  • Slow down and actually enjoy your meals—digestion starts with chewing

Final Thoughts

Wellness while traveling isn’t about sticking to a perfect routine—it’s about having your own toolkit to come back to, no matter where you are. A few rituals, a little awareness, and a lot of self-kindness go a long way.

And most importantly, have fun! Your routines will always be there when you get home. Enjoy where you are, savor your time, and make lasting memories. That’s part of wellness, too.
