Fall is a natural time to get a little more structured.
Maybe summer meant more travel, dinners out, later nights, or workouts happening whenever you could fit them in. Or maybe your routine has just slowly gotten away from you.
Either way, getting back into it doesn’t require an overhaul. A few small changes can make your days feel a lot more manageable.
Here are 6 places to start.
1. Pick 3 things to get consistent with
When everything feels a little off, it’s tempting to try to fix everything at once: workouts, food, sleep, steps, water, supplements, morning routine…
Instead, choose three things that would make the biggest difference right now.
Your three might be:
- Strength train 3x a week
- Include protein with every meal
- Be in bed by 10:30 on weeknights
Or:
- Walk for 20 minutes every day
- Bring lunch to work 3x a week
- Keep your phone out of bed
Keep it simple for a few weeks. Once those habits feel normal again, you can build from there.
2. Remove the obstacles
Think about the habits you *want* to be doing and what usually stops you.
Then make that part easier.
If you keep skipping morning workouts: Put your workout clothes out the night before.
If you end up ordering takeout after work: Keep two dinners at home that take less than 10 minutes to make.
If you forget to drink water: Keep a filled bottle at your desk or in your bag.
If you keep skipping lunch: Have an easy backup, like tuna packets, crackers, protein bars, or nuts.
If you never get out for a walk: Pair it with something already in your day, like your morning coffee or lunch break.
Sometimes the best reset isn’t adding another habit. It’s making the ones you already want to do easier.
3. Find 3-5 easy meals
You don’t need a new recipe every night or a fridge full of perfectly prepped containers.
You need a few meals you like, can make quickly, and almost always have the ingredients for.
A few ideas:
- Greek yogurt + berries + granola + chia
- Eggs + avocado toast + fruit
- Chicken or tofu wrap + veggies + hummus
- Ground turkey taco bowls with rice, avocado + salsa
- Sheet-pan chicken, potatoes + vegetables
- Rotisserie chicken + bagged salad + rice
Pick a few breakfasts, lunches, and dinners you can put on repeat.
4. Romanticize your morning
Your morning doesn’t need to be productive from the second you wake up. Make a little room for things that help you ease into the day and actually enjoy your routine.
A few ideas:
- Make a warm breakfast instead of eating on the go
- Have your coffee somewhere other than in front of your laptop
- Put on a playlist while you get ready
- Open the blinds and get some morning light
- Take your coffee or matcha on a short walk
- Give yourself 10 minutes to read, stretch, or just sit before starting work
- Stay off email and social media for the first few minutes of your day
It doesn’t have to be anything major. Just a few small things that make a fall morning feel a little nicer.
5. Keep moving as the days get shorter
Once it gets cooler and darker earlier, it’s easy for everyday movement to drop without really noticing.
You don’t need to turn every walk into a workout. Just look for a few easy ways to move more during your normal day.
Try:
- 10 minutes outside after lunch
- A walk while taking a phone call
- 15–20 minutes after dinner
- Getting off transit one stop earlier
- Walking to grab your coffee instead of driving
- A quick stretch or walk between meetings
Bonus: getting outside during daylight hours can also help support your sleep-wake cycle as daylight gets shorter.
6. Do a 20-minute weekly reset
This does not need to take over your Sunday. Set a timer for 20 minutes and look at the week ahead.
Your checklist:
- Check your calendar for busy days and nights
- Decide when you’ll fit in your workouts
- Choose 3 dinners for the week
- Make or order your grocery list
- Prep 1-2 things that will actually save you time
- Refill anything you’re running low on
- Wash your water bottle and pack your gym/work bag
That might be all you need to make Monday feel less chaotic and help you head into the week feeling your best.
Keep your fall reset simple
You don’t need a brand-new routine for October. Pick a few habits you want to get consistent with, remove some of the things making them harder, and have an easier option ready for busy days! xx
